The wild status of the Karoo Land's End tortoise species was discovered in the high-altitude Land's End native highland in eastern South Africa, just north of Kimberly in the North Cape Province of South Africa. The south, east to the Lesotho border, all belong to the Karoo area, from the southwest of Kepu Province (Murraysburg) to the northwest of Kepu Province (Sutherland).

The Karu Tianya tortoise is the largest of the genus Turtles, reaching a length of 17 centimeters. The carapace is gray-brown or orange, and the edges of the scutes are black. Some individuals, especially young people, have a common carapace color with no black accumulation. The male's breastplate is not concave, and "spurs" appear on the buttocks of both males and females.
