The width of the vertebral shields on the 2nd to 5th pieces is often greater than the length. The vertebral shields on the carapace appear relatively flat and broad, or there may be a shallow groove in the center of the back. The 10th marginal shield is significantly higher than the others.
The color of the carapace varies from black to tan, and some are even close to transparent. Therefore, you can occasionally see the structure of the skeleton. Three variable light yellow or cream vertical stripes appear on the front and back, becoming dull or hazy over time.
